      <image:title>About - About Carol</image:title>
<image:caption>With over 14 years of experience preparing and placing students in independent schools and colleges, Carol’s goal is to facilitate optimal placements by developing a comprehensive understanding of each individual, including those with learning challenges. In addition to expertise in school admissions and college placement, Carol has a comprehensive background in assessing learning styles and needs. She spent five years working in Boston’s Back Bay as an educational consultant for McMillan Education and currently partners with Matlack Educational Consulting in Camden, ME. Along with school and college placements at traditional private schools and colleges, she guides students with learning, communication and other challenges in appropriate private schools and colleges. Prior to educational consulting, Carol held the following positions: Director of Learning Resources for the Middle School at the Shady Hill School in Cambridge, Massachusetts Learning Services Coordinator at the Dedham Country Day School in Dedham, Massachusetts. Clinician, The Institute for Learning and Development (ILD) in Lexington, Massachusetts, where she conducted neuropsychological assessments and tutored students with weaknesses in reading comprehension, written expression and executive function skills. Carol also has extensive knowledge of how to interpret and prepare for ISEE, SSAT and SAT/ACT tests. She has also done observerships at Landmark School’s Admissions Office in Beverly Farms and at Massachusetts General Hospital's Pediatric Neurology Department. As a frequent guest lecturer at parent and school groups, Carol speaks to middle and high school groups on the impact of executive function weaknesses in teenagers who are in demanding school environments. She has also lectured on how to “triage” students who present with both ADHD and anxiety. Additionally, Carol’s presentation “Watchful Eyes on the Young Learner,” addresses the importance of timely diagnosis, interpretation and remediation of learning disorders. She has been a keynote speaker at the Massachusetts Branch of the International Dyslexia Association conferences, addressing the need for early intervention in young children with potential or existing learning disorders. Prior to the field of education, Carol held senior marketing management positions in several multinational companies in which she was responsible for their marketing communications and public relations efforts. This experience greatly benefits her students as they seek ways to uniquely show interest and stand out in their colleges through visits, essays and ongoing communications. Carol holds a master’s degree from the Harvard University’s Graduate School of Education’s Mind, Brain and Education Department with a focus on neurocognitive studies. She also holds a M.B.A. in marketing research from Boston University and earned her undergraduate degree in Journalism at The University of Massachusetts in Amherst, Massachusetts. She served as Vice President of the Independent Educational Consultants Association (IECA) Learning Disorders Committee. She currently serves on the Board of Visitors for The Fenn School. She is the mother of sons, Greg and Jack, now in their 20’s. Both attended independent Boston boys’ schools. In her spare time, Carol enjoys biking, gardening, and watching/discussing movies and books.</image:caption>
